Collaboration is a way of interaction and personal attitude where individuals are responsible for their actions, learning , their abilities and contributions of their peers as well. Collaborative learning is more students centered.

The Characteristic of collaborative learning :

            1.Qualitative learning method

3.Respects and highlights team abilities and contributions

4.Focused on the process of working together

5.Student talk is stressed as a means of working together, sharing of authority, and group consensus

Cooperative learning is the structured, systematic instructional technique in which small groups work together to achieve a common goal (Slavin, 1991).

                The Characteristic of cooperative learning :

1.Positive interdependence

2.Face-to-face promotive interaction

3.Individual and group accountability

4-Interdependence and small group skills

5.Group processing

 

2.      Differences and Similarities between Cooperation and Collaboration

Similarities

§  1. Both are used as a learning tool in today’s society to facilitate learning

§  2. Both acquire knowledge and social skills.

§  3. These methods involve the placing of individuals into teams

Differences

§  1. Cooperative learning is more teacher oriented

§  2. In collaborative learning the students are in control of their own learning

§  3. Cooperative learning tends to facilitate competition between members
